Hi everyone, my name is Mark Chavez and this is my twenty first year coaching and seventeenth year at Coronado. I was born here in El Paso, and have enjoyed athletics from a very young age. I played football all of middle school and high school, track all of middle school and up to tenth grade (100m, 200m, sprint relays, and occasionally the 4x400m). My last two years I participated in wrestling before graduating from Coronado in 1991. From there, I continued on to UTEP to pursue my bachelors in kinesiology. Soon after graduating in 1996, I started my coaching career and have been at it ever since. I spent my first two years at Wiggs Middle School where I coached football, track, and basketball. My next two years were at Bowie High School where I coached football and track. In 2000, I came here to Coronado. My first two years here at Coronado I coached football and in 2002 I began coaching cross country and track. Coaching is a very enjoyable career, I enjoy working with a new kids and new personalities every year. I enjoy seeing their maturity as they develop from their freshman year all the way to their senior year not only athletically, but also as individuals. For me, that is the most gratifying experience of coaching.
